Guide to Migrants, Ethnic Minorities and Information and Communication Technologies

4. 9. 09
Source: migrationonline.cz
Theme: Integration
The guide gathers together initiatives and examples of good experience in the field of foreigner integration with the help of information and communication technologies in Europe. The publication originated within the frame of the European project IT-Bridge and consists of contributions from the individual partners.
The guide presents many initiatives that originated in differing locations for different reasons which are nevertheless connected by a common aim - to improve the social-economic involvement of foreigners and ethnic minorities in society by means of information and communication technologies, to ease the work for the mediators working with foreigners, and to support communication and contacts between foreigners and the hosting society. Inspired by various projects in the individual countries of the European Union that tried to involve foreigners into the dominant society with the help of such new technologies as the internet and mobile phones, the publication offers a unique overview of these possibilities. It could further serve as an example for the implementation of the integration measures in other countries. For the Czech Republic it is the Multicultural Center Prague who participates in the project. The examples of good experience are divided in the book into three thematic fields: work migration, education, and support of civil society. The component of every initiative also contains a brief description of how the initiative was implemented in the given country and what all is necessary for its realization.
