Armenians in the Czech Republic

The first part of the study contains a description of methodology, research sample, time schedule, site selection and research objectives. The study’s center is the third part, which deals in a number of chapters with the social and economic situation in Armenia during the last two decades of the 20th century, the history of the ethnic conflict in the Upper Karabakh. The author also describes the key reasons for emigration from Armenia as well as the chief routes of migrants. The other chapters of the third part focus on the individual aspects of integration of Armenians. The descriptive chapters cover the interactions of Armenians within the Czech society, while the interpretative chapters deal with issues of identity (or ethnicity). The last section of the study examines Armenian emigration in a wider context. The fourth part is a follow-up to the interpretative chapters that conclude the third part, but it also sheds new light on the issues at hand. The final chapters cover the trans-national network of Armenian diasporas in the world and offers historical and political information as well as a brief characteristics of the main traits of various Armenian immigrant communities.
