New Migration Regime in Germany

The German migration regime has undergone extensive reforms in the last years. This paper written by William Hiscott analyses the latest changes brought about through the implementation of the Zuwanderungsgesetz (Immigration Law) in the beginning of 2005. This reform will be placed in its historical context, which includes the traditional usage of opening gates of entry for labour migrants from certain regions of the world in order to serve national interests. Liberalisation tendencies will also be discussed.
William Hiscott is a political publicist and professional editor based in Berlin, Germany. He holds a master’s degree in philosophy, political science and gender studies from the Humboldt University in Berlin and a bachelor’s degree in political science and German studies from Dickinson College in Carlisle, USA. He is currently working on his Ph.D. at the Potsdam University in Germany.
