Women asylum seekers and trafficking in human beings

The opening and more general section of the report is followed by an overview of the characteristics of trafficking in human beings. Research was undertaken in two directions. First, information was collected from NGOs in Western Europe regarding women migrants/victims of trafficking who were somehow related to the Czech Republic. Second, a survey was prepared of the legal possibilities available to women migrants/victims of trafficking, i.e. of the possibilities to be granted a legal residency status and social security in the target country. The results from both areas of research are included in the first and second half of the report. In the final analysis of links between trafficking in women and the Czech Republic’s asylum procedure, the authors present the various functions that the asylum procedure has in the framework of international trafficking in human beings. The report ends with both general and specific recommendations.
